Azerbaijan, a key player in the automotive sector, has witnessed a substantial surge in car production during the first ten months of 2021. According to data released by Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee, a total of 1,862 passenger cars were assembled in the country's various factories during this period, marking a significant growth of 24.4% compared to the same timeframe in the previous year.
Diversified Production Locations
Passenger cars in Azerbaijan are primarily manufactured or assembled in plants located in the Hajigabul, Neftchala, and Nakhchivan regions. Additionally, the city of Ganja stands out as a hub for tractor assembly. The geographical distribution of these production centers contributes to the overall growth and resilience of the automotive industry in the country.
Azermash Dominates the Market
Azermash Company, positioned as Azerbaijan's largest automaker, plays a pivotal role in the surge of passenger car production. Situated in the Neftchala Industrial Park, Azermash collaborates with Iran's Khodro Company to co-produce Khazar-branded cars.
These vehicles, available in SD and LD models, boast manual transmission, 1.7-liter engines, and compliance with the highest Euro-5 European gasoline emission standards. With price tags ranging from $8,200 to $11,750, Khazar cars have made a substantial impact on the Azerbaijani market since their introduction in 2018.
Expansion and Collaboration for Azermash
Azermash's influence extends beyond Khazar cars. Since September 2021, the company has broadened its portfolio by assembling Chevrolet-branded passenger cars and pick-ups, along with SamAvto buses of Uzbek production. Partnering with Uzbekistan's "UzAuto Motors" Company, Azermash aims to produce 5,000 units of models like Nexia, Cobalt, Damas, and Labo, in addition to 1,000 units of SamAvto buses.
This expansion aligns with Azermash's goal to eventually manufacture 10,000 cars per year, with a strategic distribution plan encompassing local and foreign markets. Approximately twenty percent of the finished products are earmarked for sale in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Middle East, and Africa.
Ganja Automotive Plant's Impressive Portfolio
The Ganja Automotive Plant, specializing in tractor assembly, has seen a remarkable uptick in production. As of November 1, 2021, the factory rolled out 581 tractors, marking a 2.3-fold increase compared to the same period in 2020. The plant assembles nine models of Belarus tractor brands, including farm tractors and special-purpose vehicles like cranes and garbage trucks.
Additionally, it features eighteen models of lorries from Russian KAMAZ and Belarusian MAZ brands, contributing to the diverse and comprehensive product portfolio of the Ganja Automotive Plant.
